Somatic EMDR Therapy
Trauma is not only stored in our memories—it is also held within the body and nervous system.
When we experience overwhelming or distressing events, our mind and body work together to protect us. Sometimes these protective responses remain long after the danger has passed, leading to symptoms such as anxiety, emotional overwhelm, panic, chronic stress, physical tension, disturbed sleep, or a persistent sense of being "on edge."
Somatic EMDR combines the internationally recognised EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy with body-based, nervous system-informed approaches. Rather than focusing only on thoughts and memories, Somatic EMDR gently helps you become aware of physical sensations, emotions, movement impulses, breathing patterns, and nervous system responses while processing difficult experiences.
This integrated approach supports your brain and body to complete unresolved survival responses, allowing traumatic memories to become less distressing and more adaptive over time.
Therapy proceeds at a pace that feels safe and manageable, with a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, stability, and developing internal resources before deeper trauma processing begins.
